Abuja - The Katsina State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has destroyed more than 6 tonnes of drugs with an estimated value of over N800 million.
Speaking at the destruction ceremony held at Barawa Village on Thursday, state commandant of NDLEA, Hajiya Maryam Gambo, said the drugs were made up of cannabis and psychotic substances.
She explained that the drugs were seized from 558 convicts from 2007 to 2013 and destroyed following order granted by the Federal High Court in the state.
The agency arrested 571 suspects out of which 17 were females and made a seizure of 781,059 kg of various drugs in 2014.
The NDLEA commandant explained that 94 suspects were sentenced to various jail terms within the period.
Gambo said the destruction and burning of the drugs was an indication of common grief and anger against the drugs menace and the wicked perpetrations of drug crimes.
