The Federal Operations Unit, Zone ‘A’ of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) on Friday said it recorded revenue of N308 million between Sept. 17 and December 15.
Uche Ejesieme, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Unit, disclosed this in an interview with the media in Lagos.
He said that the unit recorded 2 719 seizures with a Duty Paid Value of N1.8 billion in 11 months covering January and November.
Ejesieme said that in November alone, the unit intercepted 287 seizures with a DPV of N174. 6million.
He said that 13 suspects were arrested in connection with the seizures made in November.
Ejesieme said the six-point agenda of the Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC), Alhaji Dikko Abdullahi, assisted the command in boosting anti-smuggling drive.
“We also got support from inter-agency collaboration and synergy with the stakeholders, particularly the maritime operators.”
“The CGC, Alhaji Dikko Abdullahi, and his management, together with the Comptroller, Federal Operations Unit, Turaki Adamu, have been able to prove to the world that the NCS has the capacity not only takeover from the service providers.”
He said the service had also proved that it could improve on the operations of the service providers.
Ejesieme said since the service took over from the service providers, the issue of ‘unnecessary’ delay in the generation of Risk Assessment Report (RAR), now replaced by the Pre-Arrival Assessment Report (PAAR), had been solved.
He assured that the service would remain committed to its functions of revenue generation and suppression of smuggling.
